The story of the gite
Three years ago we built our home in a field very near our grand parents’house. Unfortunately both are dead now. That's why, one day, we had this wonderful idea to create a gite because we wanted to see life again in this area.
In the fifties, Millau had a lot of leather prosperous factories (coats, gloves, bags...and so on)
A lot of in our town were working in them, while their wives were serving at home bringing back their leather gloves to the different factories every weekend.
Our granddad was at the factory all day long and granny was behind her kitchen window in the light of the sun, as a server waiting for him. A meticulous and diligent job requiring piercing eyes and a lot of patience too.
Millau (the town) near the river Tarn below, is surrounded by mountains (the Causses) where the millavois (people living here) had some paradise little vegetables gardens, fields, orchards, hen houses, and vineyards.
There, they were happy in the open fresh air at the weekends.
Today, we often think to this natural way of life and in that area we decided to built our sweet home for our little family. We started to repair the resting place in December 2008 and after six months of intensive work, everything is ready to meet new tenants here. We decided to call this new house la Gantiera, it’s an occitan old French word, like that we thank a lot, our granny and granddad. They would be so happy to hear life again in this little paradise.
We hope you’ll appreciate our cordial, affable and natural resting place. So we do, living there, quite near with our children. Here we are Nelly and Denis, our two daughters Alice and Mary, our cat and four hens Javotte, Anastasie, Cendrillon and Dora.
Special thanks
Thanks a lot to every person who helped us during the realization of our plan, workmen from our area were very competent.
